Aviane is a combination hormone medication primarily utilized for pregnancy prevention. Its mechanism involves inhibiting ovulation, impeding sperm from reaching an egg, and preventing fertilized eggs from attaching to the uterus.

Additionally, Aviane can address acne, regulate the menstrual cycle, reduce blood loss and painful periods, and lower the risk of ovarian cysts. It’s important to note that Aviane does not provide protection against STDs or STIs.

 

How should Aviane be used?
Aviane is taken orally at the same time daily, with or without food, as prescribed by a doctor.

The 21-pack or 28-pack format involves taking active tablets in order, with variations in the cycle.

For a 21-day pack, after the last active pill, refrain from tablets for 7 days unless directed otherwise.

For a 28-day pack, after the 21 active pills, take inactive pills for 7 days before starting the new pack.

If you miss your period, consult your doctor, and if it’s the initial use, employ non-hormonal birth control for the first 7 days to prevent pregnancy.

 

What are the potential side effects and risks of Aviane?
When using Aviane, individuals may experience symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, headache, bloating, swelling of ankles/feet, weight gain, breast tenderness, vaginal bleeding between periods, missed and/or irregular periods, increased risk of blood clots, and increased risk of certain hormone-dependent tumors.

Additionally, severe symptoms like breast lumps, mental/mood changes, severe stomach/abdominal pain, unusual changes in vaginal bleeding, dark urine, or yellowing of the eyes/skin may occur. If these severe symptoms manifest, seek immediate medical attention.

 

How can I discontinue the use of Aviane birth control?
There is no specified procedure for discontinuing Aviane – users may cease at their discretion. Upon stopping the birth control, the body and menstrual cycle will require some time to readjust, potentially resulting in symptoms like spotting or bleeding between periods.

It is normal to experience irregular periods for a few months, but the menstrual cycle should eventually return to its pre-medication pattern.

 

Who should avoid taking Aviane?
Aviane is not recommended for individuals with uncontrolled high blood pressure, heart disease, coronary artery disease, circulation problems, unexplained vaginal bleeding, liver disease or liver cancer, severe migraine headaches, or those taking specific hepatitis C medications, smokers over the age of 35, and pregnant individuals.
