What is Yasmin and how does it work?

– 28-day pack: After taking the first 21 pills with active medication, continue with the last 7 at the same rate. Begin a new pack the day after finishing the current one, regardless of whether you have your period.

If you did not experience your period, consult your doctor. For first-time users of this medication, it’s advisable to use an alternative form of non-hormonal birth control during the first week.

 

What are the side effects and risks of Yasmin?

Common side effects of Yasmin include:

– Nausea, vomiting
– Headache
– Bloating, swelling of ankles/feet, weight gain
– Breast tenderness
– Spotting or missed and/or irregular periods
– Increased risk of blood clots
– Increased risk of some hormone-dependent tumors

Who should not take Yasmin?

Yasmin should not be taken if you are allergic to ethinyl estradiol or drospirenone. Additionally, it is contraindicated if you have a history of adrenal gland problems, stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, diabetes, kidney or liver issues, unexplained vaginal bleeding, high cholesterol or triglyceride levels, or heart problems.

Yasmin is not suitable for use during pregnancy or by individuals who smoke and are over the age of 35.
